Florals

Wanna make me happy?  Buy me a day pass to a botanical garden, hand me my watercolors, and tell me "Have fun!" Ever since my earliest micron pen sketches in the Franklin Park Conservatory, I just can't stop painting flowers. (More than one of my floral designs have been displayed in galleries in Columbus, Ohio - and one even won an award!)

Sophie's Amaranth
(Award-Winning)

Did you know that I was married once before?  It's true - we got married too young, and in September of 2016 we separated.

In an odd twist of fate, that happened to be the same month that this piece (which my first husband helped name) was accepted into a juried gallery show.  It was my first gallery show ever - and it won an award.  It was a strange juxtaposition of joy and new beginnings, compared against the grief and relief of ending my first marriage.

This piece was displayed in the juried Hit the Hop show at Galleries on High, and won the show's People's Choice award.  The original was purchased by a private collector.

Orange Roses (Enthusiasm)

I started this piece not long after meeting Ido.  I learned that orange roses symbolize "enthusiasm", which matched the energy of my wonderfully extroverted new love.  I painted this as a joyful love letter to him.

This piece was displayed in multiple galleries and juried shows in Columbus, Ohio. The original hangs in my home.

Magnolia Branches

As my watercolor skills improved, I was approached by a new friend I made on social media after I painted these magnolia blossoms - which at the time were exploding in every shade of pink across my favorite urban park in Columbus, Goodale Park.

At his request, I ended up donating this piece to a fundraiser for his non-profit, Friends of Goodale Park.

The original was auctioned off to help benefit Goodale Park in the heart of Columbus, Ohio.

Missouri Lotus

Before we all got married and moved away, me and my two younger siblings made a point to do a "sibling road trip" every summer.  We would pick a city within a 7-hour drive of Columbus, stay in an AirBNB, and enjoy fun long weekends in new-to-us cities.

One summer, we went to St. Louis and I convinced them to go to the Missouri Botanical Gardens with me.  I was like a kid in the candy store, surrounded by all that paint-able natural beauty.

The original was displayed in 3060 Gallery when I was a resident artist there, and now the original hangs in my home.

Gold-Veined Leaf

One of the things I miss the most, while living in Israel, is the changing of the leaves during fall - a love you can see in the piece I created while still living state-side.  I painstakingly layered and created this piece, one unit at a time, with a bright green .005 micron pen and teeny tiny watercolor brushes.

This piece was displayed in multiple galleries and juried shows in Columbus, Ohio. The original hangs in my home.

Speckled Orchid

During the long winters in Ohio, my favorite refuge was the Franklin Park Conservatory.  No matter how bitterly cold the day was, I could retreat inside these glass biodomes and rest in a humid indoor jungle or sit next to a koi pond.  It was a balm to my soul in winter - and a breeding ground for my early work.

Every year, the Conservatory has a special month of orchids.  And I can't tell you how many of those flowers I sketched, drew and painted.

The original was displayed in 3060 Gallery when I was a resident artist there, and now the original hangs in my home.
