It's impossible to take a single picture and say "this is Israel".  I also can't take just one color profile from a single place and say "these are the colors of Israel".  There's just too much wonderful variety here!

I live in the town of Kiryat Motzkin, which is a quiet little suburb just north of the Haifa.  This means that I'm also just a 5-minute drive away from the beaches on Haifa Bay, which is a part of the Mediterranean Sea 🌊

During my first summer in Israel, I attended a Hebrew school (called an 'ulpan') right on the beach in nearby Kiryat Yam.  And after classes, I'd wade through the Mediterranean surf and fill my eyes with the bright teals and blues of the waves, the red and grey cargo ships on the horizon, and the shapes of downtown Haifa on the mountains across the bay.

And if I get in my car and drive an hour to the northeast, I'll end on up the western shores of the Sea of Galilee.  It's not a long drive - but the colors around this freshwater lake are gentler, with more swaying eucalyptus trees and deep green reeds on the shoreline.

And if I drive 5 hours south, down the highway and through the flat rocky deserts of southern Israel, I'll eventually arrive at the resort city of Eilat - and the shores of the Red Sea.  And the colors here are a lot like the Mediterranean, with bright teals and tall date palms, but they're surrounded by a border of desert mountains with their own color palette: sandy caramel, dark purple-ish brown, even rose gold.

Which is why I started creating pieces like this - trying to capture all of those colors of all these places that add up together and make Israel.
